Dear Expectant Family,
Hi – we are Adam and Courtney. We know you haven’t stumbled here by accident and hope you know that there are many of us praying for you as you walk through this journey. In so many ways, adoption has both blessed and humbled us beyond measure. It has enabled us to have a family as we met our beautiful daughter Layla in April of 2015 right after she was born. It has also given us an immense respect for women and families like yourself who make the courageous step towards choosing an adoption plan for your child. We have a wonderful open adoption with our daughter’s birth mom and consider her and her children an extension of our own family. We send pictures, talk on the phone, and have gotten together a couple of times since Layla was born.
As for our story- we met in college, fell in love, and got married a few years later on the beach with bare feet and sandy toes. We spent the first years of our marriage enjoying our time together, working on a fixer upper house, and growing our business. Then the day came when the house felt a little too quiet and we felt ready to add some kiddos to the mix. Infertility was something we didn’t anticipate, but now we can look back and see that it was a blessing in disguise. We spent a few years trying for a baby. There was a lot of poking and prodding, medication, surgeries, and the like. It was tough but definitely strengthened our marriage. And in the mist of that, slowly but surely, adoption began to creep into our minds. Eventually it was undeniable, this was the way we were intended to grow our family. Infertility was hard but allowed us to see a different possibility for what God planned for us. And about 9 months later we were holding our beautiful daughter and loving on her birth mom.
And now here we are, hoping to adopt again. We’ve always dreamt of having a couple of children, especially because Adam grew up an only child and always wished he had had a sibling. Our daughter will be a great big sister and she has been practicing for the job with her baby dolls. We currently live in a two-story house in a historic neighborhood close to the beach, parks, and the city. We have a nursery set up in one of the bedrooms and a playroom full of toys in another. We live very close to most of our family and they love spending time with our daughter. Layla has 8 cousins who adore her and who live just a few blocks away! In our free time we enjoy going for walks down to the water, going to the splash pad or playgrounds, making sandcastles at the beach, and having dance parties in the living room. We also love to travel – especially to the mountains to get a break from the Florida heat.
We are both self-employed which gives us a lot of flexibility with our schedules. Adam works as a Vocational Evaluation Consultant and helps those with disabilities gain employment. Courtney works as a mental health counselor and helps individuals and couples who are going through difficult seasons of life. Our faith is very important to us and we are involved in a wonderful, local church. We are also grateful to have a community of friends who have come alongside us in the journey and supported us every step of the way.
There’s much more to say but that’s just a snippet of who we are and how we got here. We look forward to potentially meeting you and hearing your story one day, and pray that God gives you wisdom and strength each step of the way in the meantime.
