More About Our Family
We were both raised in loving Christian families in the Midwest. Brian moved to Chicago for college, while Maria landed a teaching job in the area soon after attending college in Iowa. We met through our church a few years later and fell in love right away! Now we’ve been married for 9 years. We both like to travel, cook, spend time with friends and family, play games, and stay active. Our Community Our church is our second family. We have found lasting friendships and support in a place where we can worship, learn, serve, and be challenged—really challenged, sometimes! It’s a strong and accepting community of faithful Christians that are always pushing the envelope on what it looks like to follow Jesus. Our pastors are very supportive of our adoption journey, and we’ve connected with other families who have experience with adoption, too. We look forward to raising a child in this special community! We live in Chicago and appreciate the diverse, multi-generational family dynamic of our neighborhood. We have a great little farmers market, community center, library, gardens, parks, and a local kid-friendly café where we love to unwind. We are enjoying this time preparing our home for this little one. We've been saving books that are special to us and look forward to story times. Across the street we can see the nice open space where we imagine playing frisbee or kicking a ball around. We have large windows with a great view of the train; any toddler who visits out home loves that part! We are also looking closer at the schools in our area to understand which might be the best fit. Why Adoption? We both have long-standing interest and positive associations with adoption. We discussed our desire to adopt before we even got engaged. Now that we’re ready to become parents, adoption is our first choice. Maria has a blood clotting disorder that makes pregnancy high-risk. To us, this reinforced our enthusiasm and preference for adoption. Openness When we first began the adoption process, we didn’t know whether an open relationship with the birth parent was right for us. But through time, stories, and prayer, we have grown to see what a healthy opportunity an open adoption could be for everyone involved. This child will be fully enveloped into our families, and we hope that you will also stay connected to us and this child, to the extent you feel comfortable. We don’t know exactly what our relationship will look like, but we look forward to building it together!
More About Brian
Brian is a data consultant at a health-technology company in downtown Chicago. He enjoys learning about the latest technology trends, and he looks forward to passing on his intellectual curiosity to his future child(ren). Brian is incredibly patient, kind, knowledgeable, curious, and creative with a strong attention to detail. He is musical, handy around the home, and dreams about having a dog someday. Brian's lighthearted and imaginative side comes out when he spends time with his nieces and nephew. There's always a lot of laughter! He looks forward to teaching our kids about music, golf, and trains. What kid doesn't love riding a train?
More About Maria
Maria is an ESL teacher, helping immigrants improve their English skills. She loves her work because she believes it’s important to show hospitality toward people who are new to the U.S. Before this she was a Spanish teacher, where she enjoyed the opportunity to introduce elementary-aged kids to a culture different than their own. When you meet Maria, you'll easily see that she is thoughtful, kind, witty, loyal, organized, very considerate of others, and a great friend! She loves games, appreciates good food, is enamored by Lake Michigan, and looks forward to annual vacations. Since languages are a big part of Maria's life, she's really looking forward to reading and singing with this little one. Maria is also excited to share concerts and plays as a family (the ones that are fun for kids, of course!) After any event, it's easy for Maria to say "yes" to trips to get ice cream before heading home.
